Let’s say that you found an old chest filled with gold coins with markings that you don’t recognize while digging to fix a pipe or something in your backyard. Would you be open to sharing this finding with the authorities? Or more willing to take it all for yourself?. I think this requires more strategizing than we think, since there are regulations and people might talk
What would you do if you discovered a gold treasure in your backyard?

I would most definitely try to hide it, I would melt it piece by piece and sell them as gold bars or something, one small piece at a time!
I think that there are some laws about finding old treasures and artifacts depending on the country ofc, but I wouldn't want to end up in jail. I would probably talk to someone who is familiar with the law before deciding on anything
Smart move, but you need to find someone trustworthy
No one is talking about the markings on the coins, I would find some expert on this and show him a single coin just to understand what era is this coming from and what civilization. It might be a huge historic artifact that I should participate in preserving.
I strongly believe that the government would reward you, or am I just too naïve?
